DESCRIPTION:Chris Jones will meet with voters on Saturday\, December 20th\, at 9:30 am\, at the Anamosa Public Library to share news of his candidacy for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture. \n\n\n\nChris Jones is an Iowa-based environmental scientist and writer with a B.A. in chemistry and biology from Simpson College and a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Montana State University. He has worked in water-quality roles at Des Moines Water Works\, the Iowa Soybean Association\, and most prominently as a research engineer at the University of Iowa\, where he helped lead a statewide network monitoring agricultural nutrient runoff. Beginning in 2015\, Jones wrote widely read essays criticizing the environmental impacts of industrial agriculture\, many of which were collected in his 2023 book The Swine Republic. Since retiring from the university\, he has continued his advocacy through public writing\, talks\, and co-founding the nonprofit Driftless Water Defenders\, remaining a prominent voice on agriculture and water-quality reform in Iowa.
